Abstract
This report is a statistical analysis of 186 cases of acute appendicitis-which had been treated at Hanil Hospital from April 1971 to August 1972.
The purpose of this paper is to observe on correlation between inflammatory process and Luekocytic 8 Neutrophilis counts in patients with acute appendicitis.
In a series of 186 cases, 124 patients have a white blood cell count over 10, 000 per mm3; 20 cases (36%) in catarrhal type, 59 cases (70. 1%) in supportive type, 16 cases `94%) in gangrenous type and 29 cases (95%) in perforated type.
In neutrophilic counts, 122 patients have a neutrophilic count over 75% of the white blood cell count; 24 cases (43. 6%) in catarrhal type, 56 cases (67. 5%) in suppurative type, ?14 cases (82.4%) in gangrenous type and 28 cases (90. 3%) in perforated type.
In the majority¢¥ of patients with acute appendicitis, leukocytosis and neutrophilia is marked, but it is difficult to determine the severity of inflammation by means of leukocytic and neutrophilic counts.
